In this video on the history and significance of Kashi, also known as Varanasi, one of the oldest and holiest cities in India. In this video, we will explore the origins and legends of Kashi, the sacred temple of Kashi Vishwanath, and the controversial Gyanvapi Mosque.
Kashi is believed to be the abode of Lord Shiva, the supreme deity in Hinduism. According to Hindu scriptures, Kashi was founded by Shiva himself, and is the place where he manifested as a column of light, known as a Jyotirlinga. Kashi is also considered to be one of the seven holy cities that can grant liberation, or moksha, to those who die there.
The Kashi Vishwanath Temple is the most revered shrine in Kashi, dedicated to Shiva as the Lord of the Universe. The temple has a long and turbulent history, as it was repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt by various invaders and rulers. The current temple was constructed in the 18th century by Ahilyabai Holkar, a Maratha queen, after the previous temple was demolished by Aurangzeb, a Mughal emperor, in the 17th century. The temple houses a black stone lingam, or symbol of Shiva, that is worshipped by millions of devotees every year.
The Gyanvapi Mosque is a mosque that stands adjacent to the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, built by Aurangzeb on the site of the demolished temple. The mosque is a source of dispute and controversy, as many Hindus claim that it encroaches on the sacred land of Kashi and conceals the remnants of the original temple. Recently, a court ordered a survey of the mosque premises by the Archaeological Survey of India, to investigate the claims of Hindu origins of the structure. During the survey, the Hindu side claimed to have found a Shivling inside a reservoir on the mosque complex, while the Muslim side dismissed the claim and said that it was a fountain.
In this video, we will delve deeper into the history and mysteries of Kashi, Kashi Vishwanath Temple, and Gyanvapi Mosque, and try to understand the religious and cultural significance of these places. We will also look at the current situation and the future prospects of resolving the conflict and restoring the harmony of Kashi. Stay tuned for more interesting facts and insights on Kashi, the city of light.
