Black women in the United States are more than three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women, according to the CDC — a staggering and persistent disparity that researchers, advocates, and healthcare professionals are still trying to solve. Dr. Tosin Adebayo, an Assistant Professor of Communication Studies at Towson University, studies Black women’s maternal healthcare experiences. For her, the work is both academic and deeply personal.
