The Power of Local Music Spaces in London

Kaidi is a London-based musician whose work spans composition, production, and performance. In this short documentary, filmed in Wandsworth, he talks through his early experiences with music—from learning piano at school to discovering the saxophone and developing his sound across jazz and hip hop.

The film also highlights Kaidi’s involvement with World Heartbeat, a community music space in Nine Elms. Originally introduced to the venue as a student, he now runs masterclasses for young musicians, offering practical guidance on technique, performance, and building a career in music.
Set against the backdrop of a changing local area, the documentary offers a snapshot of creative work happening in community-led spaces. It focuses on how places like Heartbeat support emerging talent and create opportunities for people to connect through shared interests.

Straightforward and reflective, this film captures how one musician’s journey continues to evolve—and how it intersects with wider efforts to make music more accessible in London.

1000 LONDONERS
This film is part of 1000 Londoners, a ten-year digital project which aims to create a digital portrait of a city through 1000 of the people who identify themselves with it. The profile contains a 3 minute film that gives an insight into the life of the Londoner, as well as their personal photos of London and some answers to crucial questions about their views on London life. Over the course of the project we aim to reveal as many facets of the capital as possible, seeing city life from 1000 points of view.

1000 Londoners is produced by South London based film production company and social enterprise, Chocolate Films. The filmmakers from Chocolate Films will be both producing the films and providing opportunities to young people and community groups to make their own short documentaries, which will contribute to the 1000 films.
