Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw today announced a major rationalization of freight charges for bulk cement transportation, terming it a “game changer” for affordable housing.Under the new policy unveiled at Rail Bhawan, distance and weight slabs have been eliminated. A flat rate of ₹0.90 per tonne per kilometre (Gross Tonne KM) will apply for bulk cement loaded in containers.The reforms also introduce customized containers and dedicated bulk cement terminals to enable seamless door-to-door logistics. The measures aim to significantly reduce cement costs for poor and middle-class families building homes. #NewsStationPodcast
