Vin Diesel's attempt at leading a new action franchise akin to an American James Bond started with more than a bang with xXx becoming a successful summer blockbuster. The franchise then steered in a different direction with the Ice Cube led sequel called xXx: State of The Union which was met with sour reviews and a poor box office performance. Amid a lull in the Fast and Furious franchise, Dieself returned for xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, which was seen as "too little, too late" to save the series from it's diminishing returns.
