Facebook & Instagram API Setup Guide (For ASMM Pro Plugin)

This tutorial video explains how to create and obtain the Facebook and Instagram API keys required to set up your ASMM Pro Plugin.

Important: Log in using the Facebook account that manages the Facebook Page and the Instagram Business Account you want to post to.

Step-by-Step Guide
1. Create a Facebook Page

Go to facebook.com/pages/create and create your Facebook Page.

Once done:
✔ You now have a Facebook Page
✔ You have converted your Instagram account into a Business/Professional IG account

2. Create a Developer Account

Go to developers.facebook.com/apps.

Here, we will create the app needed to generate your API keys.

3. Connect Your Business Instagram to Your Facebook Page

Ensure your Business IG account is properly linked to your Facebook Page.
This step is required before generating any API tokens.

4. Set Up the App to Get the APIs

In your Meta Developer dashboard:

Create your app

Configure basic settings

Prepare the app for permissions and token generation

5. Use the Graph API Explorer

Go to developers.facebook.com/tools/explorer.

Select your app

Choose all required permissions

Ensure a total of 49 permissions are selected

Generate an access token

Check that the token is properly linked to your account/page

6. Use the Access Token Debugger

Go to developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/accesstoken.

Here you will find:

Instagram Page ID

Facebook Page ID

You will need both later during plugin setup.

7. Extend the Token Expiry Date

Extend your access token to a long-lived version (about 2 months+).

Important: Use the new token provided.
Do not use the previous shorter token.

8. Make the Token Never Expire

Use the following URL (replace {ACCESS_TOKEN} with your long-lived token):

https://graph.facebook.com/me/account...{ACCESS_TOKEN}


This will generate a permanent, never-expiring access token.
Use this token going forward.

To confirm it is correct, run it again through the Access Token Debugger.

9. Important Information

Before continuing, make sure:

✔ Your Instagram account is converted to a Business account
✔ Your Instagram account is linked to your Facebook Page

These two items are mandatory.

10. Proceed to the Next Step

Return to your app in the Meta Developer dashboard.

Before making the app live:
You must add your Instagram account to the app.
(This step is different from linking IG to the Facebook Page.)

After adding Instagram to the app, you may now turn the app Live.

Setup Complete

You now have:

✔ Your Facebook Page ID
✔ Your Instagram Business Account ID
✔ Your permanent Access Token
(Same token is used for both Facebook and Instagram in your ASMM Pro plugin)
✔ Your App is Live
