Invented by Edwin Link in 1929, the Link Trainer was the world's first mass-produced flight simulator, and was instrumental in training aircrew during the Second World War. A surprisingly sophisticated machine for its day, the Link used a combination of pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical systems to simulate nearly condition a pilot would encounter during actual flight. In this very special episode, I am joined by Link restorer Nick Reeder as we delve into the fascinating inner workings of this forgotten piece of aviation tech.
