Conserving Bonaire's Sea Turtles Part 2 ep. 27 | A Diver's Life

Sea Turtles and more sea turtles! This episode is absolutely loaded with them. In this episode we will take you out to Lac Bay to witness Sea Turtle Conservation Bonaire (STCB) and its volunteers perform an in-water survey of sea turtles from weighing, measuring, tagging and so on. Few people will ever see sea turtles up this close. In fact, we take you so close you might feel like you are touching them yourselves. You will see sea turtles lining their boat and volunteers working first hand with these amazing green sea turtles. We will then, for the first time, sit down for an in-depth interview with STCB manager Kaj Schut who will detail all their efforts on Bonaire and throughout the Caribbean. You will learn about an organization, called WideCast, which STCB works with to collaborate with other like organizations throughout the Caribbean. You will also learn how you can volunteer and donate STCB too. Volunteers are the most important asset to STCB efforts. You will also learn what you can do on your own to help sea turtle populations.

Finally, Doreen and I will take you out to Bonaire’s Wild east coast and take you on a shore dive to a secret entrance into the southern end of Turtle City! Dive boats, and shore divers, seldom go to this part of Turtle City. You will get to see these sea turtles, in the wild, without a lot of people - which you would typically get on a dive boat. The reef is magnificent, as are the numbers of turtles and marine life that is there. If you have never seen Bonaire’s east coast reef this will truly be a treat! At the end (wait for it) watch for 2 enormous spotted eagle rays’ silhouettes swimming into the sunset.
