The afternoon singles swung the momentum back toward Team USA. The Americans responded with clutch singles performances to erase the morning deficit and take a narrow 6½–5½ lead at the close of Day 1. Niall Shiels Donegan, who had been rested in the morning, returned to the lineup and ground out a big 1-up singles win, but timely U.S. victories overall gave the hosts the half-point edge going into Sunday. A tense weekend was set up with everything still very much in play.
