INTERPOL Trafficking in Illicit Goods

INTERPOL has focused on combating IP crime since 2002 and a significant amount of resources are committed to the cause. The mission of INTERPOL's Trafficking in Illicit Goods programme is to disrupt and dismantle transnational organized IP Crime groups.

The INTERPOL Trafficking in Illicit Goods Programme has a number of core objectives including:

1. Maintain a central point of reference on transnational organized IP crime for the 190 INTERPOL member countries, all public and private sector stakeholders

2. Increase international police and law enforcement awareness about IP crime and its links to transnational organized crime

3. Develop and maintain contacts and partnerships with representatives of INTERPOL regional bureaus, law enforcement agencies, governments, international organizations, cross-industry representative bodies, private industry and individuals involved in collective efforts to combat transnational organized IP crime

4. Encourage and facilitate participation in the IPR Programme by a wide range of IP crime affected industries and cross-industry representative bodies

5. Deliver core IP crime services to law enforcement and industry investigators in member countries

6. Facilitate the exchange of police and non-police information and intelligence on IP crime as appropriate and in accordance with INTERPOL Regulations and INTERPOL Database on International Intellectual Property (DIIP) Crime information handling protocols

7. Facilitate and coordinate regional cross-industry interventions into transnational organized IP Crime as part of a strategy to increase the number of law enforcement interventions in IP crime in member countries leading to seizures of counterfeit goods and the arrest of transnational organized criminals

8. Contribute to collective efforts to develop the International IP Crime Investigators College (IIPCIC)

9. Deliver clear, consistent and specialized IP crime training programmes for police, other law enforcement officers and IP crime investigators under the umbrella of the International IP Crime Investigators College (IIPCIC)

INTERPOL is interested in cooperating with law enforcement authorities, the public and private sectors in the fight against transnational organized IP crime.
