Sometimes it's necessary to offset the milling head to drill an angled hole or make an angled facing cut. After you've done this, you'll need to align the head.
In this video we are aligning the milling head using a custom made DTI bar. Essentialy, the procedure is to make sure that a DTI reads the same both sides when secured at an offset from the spindle.
There are a million ways to achieve this and this method is by no means the only one, but it is the one we use and serves us well.
The two DTI tramming guages are quicker but we don't have one and we haven't got round to using one yet. It could be argued that our method is theoretically more accurate as we're checking a wider section of the bed, but I wouldn't make that argument!
What we do is good for us, but be aware that there are other methods and they are equally as valid.
Though if they're not set to a 16 second free Youtube Disco Remix track, then frankly, I don't think they're valid at all.
