Orcs Must Die: Deathtrap receives a controversial balance update and more with Update 1.0.11 Patch Notes. Just two weeks ago, Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap recevied a complete barricade rework, adding rift barricades, barricade skips, a full thread library rework, and more to generally make acquiring barricades much easier. If you're still struggling with barricade placement, feel free to check out my Barricade Guide for Every Map here: • Barricade Guides for EVERY MAP in Orcs Mus... .
In this CONTROVERSIAL Balance Update, Distortions have had a rework, with the main controversy surrounding Lane Opener - a distortion that reduces barricade limits by 3 per war mage. This originally reduced barricade limits in Orcs Must Die: Deathtrap by 1 per war mage, but after the previous complete rework to barricades, this didn't seem to have an impact on players between runs. This means that taking this distortion with four players on Mission 1 will leave each war mage with just one barricade each. Due to negative feedback, Lane Opener will be updated to instead reduce barricades per war mage by 2. Besides Lane Opener, other distortions that got reworked include Bring the Heat, providing three fire ogres per wave; Beefy Bosses, increasing boss health by 50%; Thick Skin, increasing Orc health by 50%; Heavy Hitters, increasing Orc damage by 50%; Budget Cuts, decreasing starting coin by 4000; and the Scramble distortion which is now disabled until March where it will be receiving a full rework.
Outside Distortion changes, Orcs Must Die: Deathtrap has had multiple balance changes to missions. Random Onslought Nodes now spawn more enemies, Healing Fliers now spawn from Random Onslought Nodes, and both Fire Elementals and Earth Elementals spawn from Unstable Rifts. Two traps; hookshot and spike wall, have had their cooldown reduced by 20%, with Spike Wall getting a damage increase from 250 to 300. I'm unsure however if this makes Hookshot worth taking in Orcs Must Die: Deathtrap.
For more controversial changes, Troll Launcher no longer launches Mountain Trolls, and Ogre Launcher no longer launches Armoured Ogres or Fire Ogres - however keep in mind this thread was bugged and shouldn't have launched Fire Ogres initially. That wraps up the controversy around the Orcs Must Die: Deathtrap changes, with the video containing further changes to threads and bug fixes. If you have tried Orcs Must Die: Deathtrap already, consider giving it another try after this barricade update, and let it inform your decision on whether the review you left is still valid!
