국립국악원 '국악아티스트랩' 사업은 전통예술인들을 지원하고, 전통예술 기반의 온라인 콘텐츠 제작활동을 진작하기 위해 마련된 사업입니다.
The “Gugak Artist Lab” initiative, launched by the National Gugak Center, aims to support traditional artists and encourage the development of online content rooted in traditional arts.


[작품소개 / Introduction]
1903년 하와이 호놀룰루, 첫 한인 이민자들이 낯선 땅에 도착했다. 각기 다른 사연으로 모인 수천여 명의 한인 노동자들은 사탕수수 농장에서 하루 10시간의 고된 노동을 견뎌야 했다.
혼기가 꽉 찬 남자들은 가정을 꾸려 정착하길 원했다. 그렇게 700여 명의 사진 신부들이 하와이로 이주했다. 사진만 교환한 채 만나게 된 낯선 남자 그리고 낯선 땅에서의 고된 농장 일과 육아. 더 나은 삶과 자유를 그리며 미지의 세계로 향했지만 현실은 달랐다. 그럼에도 그들은 자신만의 삶을 개척하며 강인하게 살아냈다.
In 1903, the first Korean immigrants arrived in the unfamiliar land of Honolulu, Hawaii. Thousands of Korean laborers, each with their own story, toiled through grueling 10-hour days on sugarcane plantations.
Hoping to settle down and start families, single men sought "picture brides". Over 700 Korean women migrated to Hawaii, to marry men who were complete strangers, known only through a few photographs—and to endure the tough realities of farm work, motherhood, and life in a foreign land. Although they came with dreams of a better life and freedom, the reality often fell short. Yet, they persevered, carving out lives of their own with remarkable strength and resilience.
