“Mossel Bay Farewell” is a heartfelt country ballad inspired by my own journey as a young man leaving home to serve in the military.
I wrote this song based on my memories of growing up in Mossel Bay, finishing school at Point High, and receiving my call-up papers. I turned down the chance to study and chose the army instead. This song follows that train ride to Ladysmith, the intense early days of training, the brotherhood, and the tragic loss of two school friends who never made it to Oudtshoorn.
