In a significant step towards landowner empowerment and economic self-sufficiency, the iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB) handed over machinery worth $295,000 to four landowning unit (LOU) groups in a ceremony held in Nadi yesterday.
The event was officiated by the TLTB Chairman and Minister for iTaukei Affairs, Hon. Ifereimi Vasu.Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Vasu highlighted the importance of economic empowerment through practical investment in tools and resources:
“This initiative is more than just a handover of machines. It represents the empowerment of our people to take ownership of their land, to build sustainable livelihoods, and to grow their own economies.”

Mataqali Nacobicibici Trust from Nasavusavu Settlement in Nalawa,Ra.
Mataqali Nacobicibic have been approved an advance of $70,000.00 to purchase a Tractor and working capital to assist with their cane farming operations.
They have already leased an area of 84 hectares of land for sugarcane farming.
CEO, Mr. Solomone Nata, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to helping landowners transition from passive land leasing to active participation in the economy.
“Through the TDF, we are addressing a key challenge that landowners have faced for years – access to capital. By investing in them, we’re not just giving machines; we’re creating opportunities for generations.”
The iTaukei Development Fund reflects TLTB’s vision to drive transformation and innovation among landowners, ensuring they are not just custodians of land, but also key players in Fiji’s national development.
