Lukla Airport, officially Tenzing–Hillary Airport, is a small but famous airstrip in eastern Nepal, serving as the main gateway for trekkers heading to Mount Everest and the Khumbu region. The runway is extremely short, about 527 meters / 1,729 ft) long. This airport has one-way takeoffs and landings due to the cliff at one end and a mountain wall at the other. Because of these challenges, Lukla is considered one of the most dangerous airports in the world, requiring highly skilled pilots. Despite this, it remains vital for tourism and local transportation in the Everest region.
