Niklot, prince of the Obotrites, stands at the twilight of Europe’s old gods. Against this tide, he stood unbent—pagan, independent, and resolute.

He defended sacred groves, ancient customs, and the right of his people to exist on their own terms. While others converted to preserve their thrones, Niklot chose the harder path, waging war not for glory or expansion, but for memory, identity, and belief. He met his end in an ambush where his lance failed against armored knights, leading to him being surrounded and slain.

In later centuries, Niklot would be remembered as the last great pagan defender of the western Slavs—a symbol of resistance against impossible odds. His enemies won the land, but his name endured, carried forward as a reminder that Europe’s conversion was not peaceful and that some chose to stand, knowing full well the cost.
