This is the first AI drafting tool I tested.
1. Users can choose to generate patent specifications as required by USPTO, EPO, or CNIPA.
2. What the user needs to do is provide the disclosure and claims (so the scenario envisioned by this tool is likely that the patent attorney has already completed a preliminary claim structure).
The input limit for both the disclosure and the claims is 8,000 English words.
The system also provides some pre-filled content as a demonstration, which can be used to generate patent content.
Since the disclosure and claims in the demonstration content are around 500 and 300 words, respectively, I think this might be the system's recommended word count.
The data I used this time was dummy data pre-generated by Google Gemini, and the word count was quite low. I'm not sure if this will reduce the quality of the generated output.
3. The system automatically selects the corresponding subject matter based on the invention's content (this might be related to its underlying algorithms), and identifies the problem, solution, and the advantages brought by the technology, as well as which embodiments it plans to draft. You can still manually modify the content, including adding or deleting embodiments.
4. After this step, it enters the critical generation process. First are the independent and dependent claims, followed by the drafting of the Background and Detailed Description, which takes tens of seconds.
5. A special feature is that after the drafting is complete, you can use a proofreading function. It basically self-checks for inappropriate wording and can help with corrections. However, I think the accuracy of these corrections is quite subjective. Finally, the content can be exported as a Word file with paragraph numbering.
Final thoughts:
The overall user experience is quite smooth. Before further confirmation, I cannot be certain about the quality of the generated content, but I expect it will continue to improve. Will future patent practitioners use dedicated AI patent drafting tools, or general-purpose AI chatbots to assist with patent drafting? I don't have an answer to that yet.
