Warning the US against "vengeance and retribution", BRICS leaders have formed a unified front against the US President's tariff threats. With the bloc now representing almost 40% of global GDP and expanding to include Iran, Egypt, UAE, Indonesia, and Ethiopia, the question remains: can they afford to battle the world's strongest economy? The US President has threatened a 10% tariff on countries aligning with BRICS' "anti-American policies", while Brazilian President Lula da Silva pushed back, declaring "we don't want an emperor." China insists BRICS promotes cooperation, not confrontation, as Russia calls for expanded use of national currencies in trade. With new members joining and plans for BRICS Pay as an alternative to SWIFT, the bloc's message is clear: the era of Western-dominated decision making is fading. But will tariff threats embolden BRICS unity or create divisions among members who want to manage US relations carefully?
