Livestream Highlights: Chick Talks Bud Powell

In this clip from a Facebook live stream, Chick plays through his tribute to the late jazz pianist and composer, Bud Powell. Before playing, Chick talks about discovering the talent and influence of Bud at a young age through his dad’s 78 rpm vinyl records.

Speaking more about Bud, Chick said: “He certainly became a big teacher for me. I never personally met him, but I saw him live once, in 1965 just before he passed… He played a gig at Birdland and I heard his trio that night, and I’ll never forget it.”
