Apparently the original song and all tapes of the show were lost in a studio fire:
OK, That's Cat was a kids show that premiered Sept 18th 1976 and it ran till sometime in 1979. (KNBC Los Angeles) The opening of the show featured the song "That's Cat" (sung by John Sebastian) and my sister and I would sing along.
Over the years I would occasionally remember the song and sing lines from it randomly... but there was no way to hear it again. ...After looking for it on the internet every few years, I finally found a post that said all tapes of the show were lost in a fire and there was no way to ever see or hear it again (Unless some random VHS surfaces at some point)
Then this happened:
Youtube user Burpo posted his performance of the song, as best he could remember it. Yes!!!!
Listen to this:
• KNBC's That's Cat TV theme song John Sebas...
He (Burpo) pretty much nails it as far as I can remember. Originally sung by John Sebastian, who also did the Welcome Back Kotter theme, this cute kids song definitely sounded like what would later be the Toy Story and Bugs life style songs by Randy Newman for Pixar Movies... and it should be noted that Newman's hit Short People was also made around that same time. (1977ish)
This was sort of the style of that time I guess.
Anyway, big thanks to Burpo for bringing this song back to the world.
My Version is very different!
As you can tell, I altered it significantly for my cover version. I gave it my usual darker/minor chorded swing treatment with upright bass and more emphasis on vintage electric guitar sounds... because that's what I like doing. :)
...and yes, I'm aware that I did not sing all the words exactly the same.

Robert Russell played the guitar, upright bass and sang this cover version.
(And did the new arrangement - based from the burpo version)
Michael Jerome played drums on this one.
Matt Thorne worked his usual studio recording and mixing magic.
David Donnelly mastered it.
For streaming purposes, I should be fine with the artist John Sebastian as the credited writer where I published it with tunecore. I usually also obtain a limited mechanical license, as though it may be redundant because I don't make cd's or physical copies, it's a nice gesture or tip for the original writer... (Me thinks) but I don't sell many songs so we are talking about 5's and 10's of dollars here. :) ...Anyway, since this song was never commercially released, there is no "First Use", so I was unable get my usual mechanical license through tunelicensing... So... If you created/own the original song, let me and tunelicensing know so I can purchase a prepaid limited mechanical license? Or I can buy you a coffee... because that might be more than my cover will ever make in streaming sales... (ha)
Otherwise the streaming license is listed with John Sebastian as the writer for now. (Best I could do)
