AZATHIOPRINE & PREDNISILONE VIDEO DIARY (6 Weeks): Immunosuppressive Drug Treatment & Side Effects.

If you're thinking of starting Azathioprine (Immunosuppressant) but are worried about side effects, then you may be interested in watching this video dairy I've put together.

Over the last six weeks I've put together lots of clips with my detailed analysis of how the drug is making me feel, the up and the downs whilst it starts to suppress my immune system.

Azathioprine is what's called a Cytotoxic drug: "Cytotoxic drugs (sometimes known as antineoplastics) describe a group of medicines that contain chemicals which are toxic to cells, preventing their replication or growth, and so are used to treat cancer. They can also be used to treat a number of other disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis"

It's important when you first start taking this drug that you have regular screening of your blood, for the first six weeks.

In the short term I'm also taking a steroid called Prednisilone whilst the Azathioprine builds up in my system and starts to work. I will then eventually taper off the steroid, but continue to take the Azathioprine.

Below is a list of side effects I've been experiencing. Whilst I'm taking both Azathioprine and Prednisilone together it's difficult to know which drug is causing the side effect. From the research I've done however, I'm confident is the Prednisilone steroid:

Increased blood pressure
Increased blood sugar levels
Nausea / Sickness
No Appetite
Bloating
Spots & Acne
fatigue
mood changes
insomnia (sleep disturbance)
Hair Loss / Change in texture.
