Aim to end up with the same number or more cards than your opponent in round 3 (and try not to use your leader!)!!
Choose a faction
Don't be scared to jump straight into classic play - this acts as a ranked game mode but you will be matched with players of similar skill to you, unlike in casual where there can be more experienced players against you
play around with each of the starter decks to get a feel for what they're like
Reward points are key to building up your collection early on
Spend reward points on ore mostly as you start out - this will be the most efficient way to build out your collection - I recommend going for 5/5 story nodes as these will give the biggest value ore rewards
avoid meteorite powder as it is only used for cosmetic crafting - gaining premium cards, of course if you care about this and aren't trying to build collection super fast then you can go for the cosmetic options
Check out the different contracts you have, you can track them in your profile - completing these and your daily quests will help you gain many more rewards, you can re-roll two daily quests per day
Ranking purchases - if you're interested in dropping a bit of money on gwent to kick-start your collection here are the rankings - i cant speak to how worthy of your money future journeys will be but this first one is definitely value for money
-1) Journey
-2) Starter pack
-3) Ultimate starter pack
-4) Northern realms faction pack
-5) Skellige faction pack
-6) Syndicate faction pack
Stay away from intro decks in general
Syndicate intro deck is ok
So now that you have a few cards
Building a deck concepts
PROVISIONS - first thing is to make sure your deck uses all the available provisions - different leaders will add a different amount of provisions to your deck so be aware of that
I wont go into detail on how exactly to make a good deck, but the value of cards in gwent, unlike other card games which have a mana curve, can be measured by looking at how many points they usually are worth in contrast to their provision cost. Good lower provision cards will usually gain more point than their provision cost, higher provision cards will usually break even in terms of points for their provision cost
Consider checking out youtube videos and streams to get ideas for possible decks, or just look at the cards yourself and think about some possible synergies between them
The joy of gwent as a beginner for me at least was trying out a lot of different ideas, some which ended up being good and others not so much. Don't worry too much about building the perfect deck straight away as it wont be needed for climbing the ranks until you get quite high - about rank 15
That's about all you need to know about gwent to get you started feel free to subscribe here to see my regular gwent videos - guides, decks, that kind of thing, good luck and have fun out there and ill see you next time!
