Boat Trip From Ciutadella | Things To Do In Menorca

Are you looking for things to do when holidaying in Menorca?
Well you could try the half day boat cruise from the stunning port of Ciutadella or Port de Ciutadella de Menorca as it is known.
We visited the island in the peak of the summer holidays, and as all the sun beds at the hotel were all taken up, we decided to get out for the day and see some of the wonderful sites and places that there are on this beautiful Spanish Balearic Island.
If you have approximately €125 and an afternoon to spare then this 3.5 hour trip may well be right up your street.
We booked the trip via https://www.getyourguide.com/. And the cruise/boat firm that it was with was Menorca Blava. It promised to let us to explore the beautiful island and relish turquoise waters and stunning beaches. But did it?
Well.. see the coast and see beautiful coves it did. And with this trip we were also able to go swimming. But only for about 45 minutes.
After queuing for about 20 minutes in 35 degree heat we were finally able to board the very full to the brim boat and set off. Be conscious that there is not much shelter on the boat, so sunscreen is must.
Drinks, ice creams and snacks can be purchased on the boat and all are reasonably priced.
With Amy & Beau in tow on this sea faring jolly, we did find that within 30 minutes they were bored - For adults this was quite a nice trip and seeing the stunning villas (and how the other half live) on the coast is always worth seeing. You get to go past Cap D'Artrutx Lighthouse, he most westerly point on the island next to Cala n Bosch, and you can also the beach from afar.
Then after approx. an hour of sailing across some surprisingly choppy sea, we arrived at Son Saura beach. You do moor quite a distance from the beach and with only one hour playing/swimming time, you do not have time to think - simply get off and start heading towards that amazing coloured water.
After teh initial queuing and sailing, you will find this to be one of the most refreshing swims you have ever had.
Then after 45 minutes in the sea, the journey back begins, but not before you head off further up the coast to sea some stunning little coves such as Cala Turqueta and Macarella-Macarelleta. From a distance you do pass one of the few nudist beaches, but unfortunately for Scott we were too far away to be able to see anything :-)
You are actually sailing for an hour and half after the swim, and really when you consider how sort of boring it was for the kids, it did for us put a dampener on the whole experience.
Do you see coves and stunning water, yes. But we did feel as if it was all just a tease. A sort of ' and this is what you could have won type thing. So many beaches all looking amazing, but all we did was get a glance and feel jealous of the swimmers on there.
Maybe we should have booked the whole day cruise which was on offer, and for only another €15 per head, with lunch that may have been worth it.
Overall what did we think of the half day cruise?
Value for money, we did feel that 3.5 hours was not worth the money, but the full day trip was probably worth it as it through in a Paella lunch and there was more swimming, beaches and caves to do and see.
If you like seeing a beautiful coastline, beaches from afar and villas that will make you envious, this is the trip for you, but probably better without young children...
