▬ 📌 Abnormalities of Corneal Transparency
A normal cornea is a transparent structure. Any condition that upsets its anatomy or physiology causes a loss of its transparency to some degree.

Common causes of loss of corneal transparency are explained as well.

Corneal Edema is the swelling of the cornea following ocular surgery, trauma, infection, inflammation as well as a secondary result of various ocular diseases.

Corneal edema can also occur following over-wear of certain types of contact lenses. Raised intraocular pressure, Endothelial damage, and Epithelial damage are the three main causes of corneal edema.

Corneal vascularisation interferes with corneal transparency and occasionally may be a source of irritation. Moreover, Corneal vascularization types, pathogenesis along with clinic-etiological features and treatment are discussed.

The pathogenesis of corneal neovascularization is still not clear. It is presumed that mechanical and chemical factors play a role. Clinically, corneal vascularization may be superficial or deep.
