Viscom8: Viscous Super 8 Kodachrome processor. Viscous developer solutions are applied in a very thin layer to the surface of the film emulsion, the quantity of developing solutions required is thus reduced enormously - a 1mm coating would use only ~ 130ml of viscous developer.
The processor is based on a heavily modified and extended 3D printer (Ender 3), allowing control of all the functions using G-code.
Rotation of the drum is controlled via the Extruder-axis stepper, the viscous developer is extruded using an array of syringe pumps controlled using the X-axis stepper (syringe selection) and dual Z-axis steppers (syringe operation).
This is the first dry test of my newly installed 3D printed helical drum (after a week of sanding it!), I've also mounted the red and blue re-exposure lamps for Kodachrome processing, and created the modified firmware using Marlin.
Next tests will involve applying a viscous solution to the film and removing it using the sprayers, I’m waiting for a new BIGTREETECH SKR MINI E3 V3.0 motherboard to arrive - this will enable me to use the 3 fan outputs to power and control the re-exposure lamps and remjet removal buffer motor, and use the hot-end and heated bed outputs to control and power the two spray pumps (one for remjet removal and the other for removing developer from the film).
I’ve had to take a break from Kodachrome processing due to another fibromyalgia flare up so I’ve switched to working on my viscous processing machine for the time-being.
