Meet Immaculate

Immaculate took part in a multimedia celebration of lone parents who experienced Ireland’s Direct Provision system, with photography and film telling her story.

Immaculate lives at the intersection of multiple forms of discrimination. She is a black woman, an asylum seeker, and a lone parent. Her experiences are shaped not by a single barrier, but by many layered systems that make everyday life more challenging — from housing and employment to education, health and safety.

Despite all of this, Immaculate is showing up every day for her children, her community and herself.

Immaculate is also now living through a time where hate is on the rise in Ireland. The subject of migration is often discussed through statistics, policy debates, slogans and headlines — not from the perspectives of those the narrative is about. Immaculate wanted to respond to that absence. She wanted to tell her story — in her own words, on her own terms.
