The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is ending its grace period for the REAL ID requirement; starting in February, travelers without a compliant ID will be charged a $45 fee and face delays up to 30 minutes.

These travelers will be processed through the Confirm.ID verification system, but the nonrefundable fee does not guarantee passage through security.

The move has led some travelers to criticize the charge as a "money grab," though others suggest it is necessary to "force compliance."
