We've always thought Christmas in July was a major grasp of impatience for people unwilling to wait the 11 months that they rightfully should to celebrate Christmas. Our minds are unchanged on the topic for those living in the US or anywhere in the northern hemisphere, but we found one area of the world that may have an excuse...
New Zealand has long celebrated mid-winter festivals to capture some of the winter-centric cheer of Christmas that they miss out on by having a summertime Christmas each year. We found a town (Greytown) that goes all-out in embracing Christmas in July, making it a 4-week affair. We also had the opportunity to learn about and experience Matariki, which is the Māori new year that happens to also fall in July, making the New Zealand July holidays that much more festive.
