“The Holy Persecution – St. Mary and Her Child Jesus Christ”

From October 6 to November 14, the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church celebrates Zemene Tsige — the Season of Roses — a time of blossoms, harvest, and spiritual renewal. Yet it is also a season of remembrance — of the Flight of the Holy Family into Egypt, one of the most moving stories in Scripture:

“Arise, take the young Child and His Mother, and flee into Egypt…” (Matthew 2:13)

During this blessed season, the faithful lift their voices in Mahiletie Tsige — hymns that call Christ the Fruit and His Mother the Flower. Though not among the seven official fasts, many choose to dedicate these days to prayer, fasting, and charity, seeking blessings through the intercession of Saint Mary.

💮 About the Hymn
This sacred melody tells the story of The Holy Persecution, when Saint Mary and her beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, fled from danger and endured hardship with divine grace and unwavering faith.
Through sorrow and exile, the Mother and Child revealed the everlasting power of love, sacrifice, and divine protection.
