Duchess of Sussex visits Oceania exhibition on first solo engagement

(25 Sep 2018) The Duchess of Sussex has stepped out her first solo engagement at the opening of an exhibition of works from the Oceania region at the Royal Academy of Arts in central London on Tuesday.
The event marks a milestone for 37-year old former actress Meghan Markle in her life as a member of the monarchy.  
The exhibition is the largest display of Pacific culture in Europe for decades, bringing together around 200 works of art, which span over 500 years, including artefacts from all over the Pacific region.
It also marks the 250th anniversary of the Royal Academy, founded in 1768, the same year that Captain James Cook set sail on his first expedition to the Pacific region on the Endeavour.
During her time at the opening the Duchess met the curators of the exhibition and viewed a performance by Ngati Ranana, a Maori cultural group.
Meghan and Harry are due to tour Australia, Tonga, Fiji and New Zealand in October.
