Replacing branding iron with Scorch Marker Pro pen?

Trying out the Scorch Marker Pro!

After seeing a short video of this pen online I just had to try it out. It's essentially a way to add personalisations onto wood (or card) - just write with the pen and use a heat gun to burn the writing, sounds great right?!

Well, I found it to be disappointing. I tested it on some furniture pine and then quickly and lightly sanded with 120 grit sandpaper to clean it up and sharpen the finish (as I would when using a branding iron) and most of it just came straight off in a couple of passes. It's like it hasn't actually burned into the wood and you would probably get a better result with a Sharpie!

It does give the look of burn engraving though so it may still be useful to you in another application, just avoid sanding over it obviously. Below is a link to the pen if you wanted to try it out yourself.
