DIY Step By Step On How To Create Slate Tile Concrete Floors | Concrete Stencil Overlay

1) Lay down grout coat and let cure (remember your grout coat will be the color of your grout lines)

2) Run a line of grout tape lengthwise down the center of floor. This will be your starting point for your stencil.

3) Using a right angle 📐 start taping down your pattern off your center line.

4) when finished with your pattern prepare your product (mix concrete) and dampen your substrate with water using a pump sprayer (carful not to soak your grout tape).

5) This part is optional but I put a thin layer of product on with a magic trowel and let it start to set up before I trowel on the second coat (this helps hold your grout tape down so you don’t have to worry about it popping up when hand troweling).

6) Pour product out in pancake and hand trowel out. If you’re installing on a floor you can do this in portions so you’re able to trowel in texture as you go (texture is easier to apply when product starts to set up).

7) Once troweled out and textured let cure overnight.

8) we stained and sprayed a charcoal accent before pulling our grout tape. This keeps the stains from bleeding into your grout line. We were just trying something different when we chose the colors, this board wasn’t made for a specific customer. Staining concrete.

9) Let the stain and accent dry then you can go ahead and pull your grout tape.

10) The final step is to just seal the floor. We used a water based sealer and rolled it on. You could also spray the sealer with a pump sprayer and back roll.

Use hardy boards to practice hand troweling on texture. Soon youll be able to hand trowel any texture you can Imagine!
