1 Minute Skatepark Guide Waurn Ponds Skate Park Geelong Victoria

Waurn Ponds Skatepark was first built in the 1990’s and apparently some guy named Tony Hawk did a big gap from the Vert ramp to the spine ramp. The same ramps that are still there today, but not for long. They are planing an update on them.

I can imagine this park would have been pumping back in the 90’s and it still has some of the original bits and bobs, and i’m happy for that. We will get to that later.

Let’s start in the new section that was completed by convict in 2023. There’s a nice fun box with wedge transitions on both sides and a grind box on top. It’s short, but fun to throw into your line. It will lead you into the Quaterpipe, it’s about a 4.5 foot quarter with good coping. It’s a little bit narrow but that’s compensated with banks on either side of the quarter that you can shoot off on to.

Next is the tombstone ledge, it’s a scary ledge with it not being 90 degree walls, that taper out and if you fall off, then it can sweep your legs out from under you. Also known as a rib cracker. But it slides really nice and makes a good grind noise.

As we move up the park, we go to the curved rail on top of the corner bank, it goes a full 90 degree angle and can be tricky to grind, but Martin makes it look easy.

There’s a long ledge that you can grind on the garden side, if you fall off here you land in the dirt. Or grind on the park side, and it turns into a quarter pipe. It’s a clever design.

As a side note, it can get busy and you need to dodge and avoid a lot of little people to hit these long ledges.

Two rails to choose from, one is down the middle of the steps and the other has steps on one side and bank on the other.

Then there’s the corn chip ledge that has lots of potential for creativity.
