A Life Hack to break in to Yacht Brokerage!

Selling super yachts can be challenging, but how to even get a position as a yacht broker in a brokerage firm can be an even bigger obstacle.

Some years ago I produced a series of videos entitled Breaking in to Brokerage (https://www.youtube.com/live/Y-MDKM8F...) , and one particular nugget of advice that I gave then is even more applicable today.

It is unusual for a brokerage firm to offer a position as a broker, or even a junior trainee broker, to somebody who lacks any experience in the field. However, many brokerage companies have a market intelligence department and it can be difficult for them to find folk who want to work in that department. The job involves data input day in and day out; what yachts are available for sale, which ones have been sold, what price changes have occurred, where is each yacht located right now, which broker has the central agency for that yacht. So much is happening every day on the market that there is plenty to keep them occupied.

The folk who work in that department often become very close indeed to the brokers, who need updated information and they need it quickly. The market intelligence folk who can deliver that information quickly and accuratelyget noticed, and can often go on to become brokers themselves, richer in knowledge of the market as a result of the time they have spent in that department.

If you REALLY want to become a yacht broker and you’re not sure how to break in to the industry I highly recommend that you write to brokerage firms offering to work in that specific department. If they don’t have a market intelligence department then offer to set one up for them. They know they need one!

To be a successful yacht broker you really need to be proactive. A self starter. Why not start now by finding the email addresses of the big brokerage firms and offering to be a valuable member of their team in a position that will bring you one step closer to your team?
