The Rings Suite | The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (Original Soundtrack) by Bear McCreary

The Rings of Power was a fairly mixed and divisive experience for audiences, but I think one of the most consistent qualities of the show, and in my opinion it's best aspect, is the brilliant score by Bear McCreary. One of the main 17 themes he composed was the theme for the elusive Rings of Power themselves. It builds throughout the show, starting off as a simple three note motif that builds, usually performed by a high and mighty female choir. It's very very simple, but effective. But when the finale comes, and we're there to see the rings become made, the theme becomes embellished. A magical, swirling ostinato backs up their creation, and the main melody of the rings shows itself. It's more prominent in the song Where the Shadows Lie, but it's a winding, melancholic and sweeping melody performed primarily on brass and strings to convey not only the beauty and grandeur of the rings, but also the looming darkness and dread of Mordor. It's a theme that reflects the darkness and glory of the rings and the world of Middle-earth as we head into darker, more cataclysmic territory.
