Claude Debussy was something of a visual composer, often inspired by an image or scene that came to him via reading or daydreaming. His 1894 Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun was informed by Stéphane Mallarmé's esoteric poem of the same name. Performed live at Orchestra Hall, April 6, 2024.
