[Reading] "A Not-So-Hot Summer" by Masao Yamakawa
山川方夫の「暑くない夏」は、突然の難病で全身の感覚を失い、余命一年と宣告された若い女性が主人公です。彼女は病室のベッドで、外の夏の景色を感じることもできず、季節の移ろいから切り離された孤独と虚無を味わいます。
物語の終盤、男性自身も一瞬「夏がない」と感じ、その体験を通じて女性と心の奥底でつながろうとする、深い共感と哀惜の心情が描かれています
The protagonist of Yamakawa Masao's "Not Hot Summer" is a young woman who loses all feeling in her body due to a sudden, incurable illness and is told she has only a year left to live. Lying in her hospital bed, she is unable to feel the summer scenery outside and experiences a sense of loneliness and emptiness, cut off from the changing of the seasons.
Towards the end of the story, the man himself also feels a moment of "no summer," and through this experience he tries to connect with the woman on a deep level, depicting feelings of deep empathy and sorrow.
