Colored paper can make your drawings pop with bold backgrounds, but it also changes how every pencil mark looks. In this video, I test Prismacolor pencils on Canson Colorline paper to see what happens when you move away from white.

We’ll draw a colourful bowl of fruit (kiwi, raspberries, and blueberries) while I talk through the benefits and challenges of using a coloured surface. From how the paper affects your highlights and shadows, to what colours show up best, this experiment will help you decide whether coloured paper is right for your next project.
