Edges are one of the most common — and most hazardous — features in rope access work. Learning how to manage them protects both the technician and the equipment.
• Protecting the rope: Ropes can be damaged quickly if dragged over sharp or rough edges without proper precautions.
• Maintaining safety: Technicians must position themselves correctly to avoid slips, pendulums, or sudden loading.
• Building real-world readiness: Unlike some manoeuvres practiced only in training, passing edges is an everyday necessity in industrial rope access.
