UPDATE 2020-01-03: It looks like this kit may have a small visual glitch when playing any GBC games in "doublespeed" mode. This does not affect any GBC games in regular mode or any GB games. As an example, Links Awakening DX runs in doublespeed mode and the right most column of pixels appears a bit noisy: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachment...
Regular Links Awakening does not have this issue: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachment...
I made a video about this issue here: • Quick Followup on the Funnyplaying GBC IPS...
Yep, it's really full size. Check out this album for more info: https://imgur.com/a/niZ1A2p
For those waiting for a full size GBC backlight kit, here's your opening. This kit requires some quite significant modification to your console shell but does not require any soldering. Even for brightness control.
I picked up one of those Funnyplaying kits for Game Boy Color. The cool thing about this kit in particular is that the display image itself is the same size as the original unlit screen from 1998. It does take a bit of effort to slide the much larger overall display in though. This is where I got the kit: https://funnyplaying.com/collections/...
You might want some spacers to help position the LCD in the shell. If you ordered your kit from retromodding, they should come with the spacers or print new ones: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:403...

If both of those options are unavailable, do not fret. The spacers are not required at all. They just take all the guess work out of positioning the LCD correctly. You should be able to "eyeball" it pretty easily since the LCD sits against the top edge of the shell and right edge (looking at the back of the console so the IR side) of the LCD window.
"Wow! That sounds awesome! But wait, there's got to be a catch, right?" you may find yourself saying. Well, yes, there is indeed a catch. It's not that big of a deal but there is some minor ghosting in some games (if you look for it) and the hit to battery life can be pretty significant if you have the brightness cranked up.
tl;dw: the kit is very easy to install but does require a lot of trimming to get the postion just right. Battery life is worse than a lot of similar mods.
