Americana is a Ferris Wheel built by US manufacturer Chance Rides currently located at Kings Dominion in Doswell, Virginia, USA.
The ride was originally built for Middle Country USA in Thorntown, Indiana and was known as Ferris Wheel. It opened in 1985. It operated until the permanent closure of the park on August 11, 1996. The ride was later sold at auction on February 22, 1997 to Premier Parks (later Six Flags). The ride later opened in 1999 at Geauga Lake in Aurora, Ohio and was called Giant Wheel. In 2001, the ride was renamed to Americana when the park became known as Six Flags Worlds of Adventure.
In March 2004, Six Flags sold Six Flags Worlds of Adventure to Cedar Fair and was renamed back to Geauga Lake. After the 2007 season, Cedar Fair announced that the amusement park side of Geauga Lake & Wildwater Kingdom would not reopen for the 2008 season. Americana would be left standing but not operating during 2008. Eventually in late summer, Americana was subsequently dismantled and sent to Kings Dominion, where it reopened on April 4, 2009.
