During WWII, the British government's "Operation Pied Piper" moved thousands of children to the safety of rural locations and away from cities where German air raids were frequently happening. The Germans did the same, moving children to Kinderlageren. My brother-in-law was one of those children. No doubt some who see these photos will have memories of evacuations, either their own or of those in their families. War is hell. There is no other way to view it. Enya's song expresses the pathos of these separations.
