In 2018, Denver Pretrial Services introduced a time-limited supervision model designed to streamline supervision adjustments for compliant clients. Under this approach, individuals who demonstrate sustained compliance are either moved to a lower level of supervision or removed from supervision entirely—without requiring a court hearing for approval. Unlike other step-down models, Denver’s approach enables complete removal from supervision in the majority of cases, offering a more efficient and client-centered pathway. This workshop will provide a detailed look at the development and implementation of this model, including the rationale for the change, policy development, recommendation criteria, and strategies for stakeholder engagement. Presenters will also discuss challenges encountered, lessons learned, and data on the model’s impact on client outcomes and system efficiency. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in discussion and ask questions throughout the session.
