in us in Manhattan for a behind the scenes visit with interior designer James Andrew and his partner, artist Scott McBee at his glamorous maisonette. See how, in searching for an apartment that could serve as both home, gallery and studio, they found a maisonette (an apartment with its own entrance) in a larger 1920s building. The designer immediately recognized it had potential, despite its soaring 12 foot ceilings as the only attraction. Working with architect Ron Czajka, James reimagined the spaces, heightening doors and adding architectural details For the decor, the designer referenced many of the 20th century greats. Doors recall Georges Geffroy’s versions made for Gloria Guiness. A Schiaparelli sofa mingles with a Dupré-Lafon armchair. And McBee’s art sits marvelously on lustrous brown walls recalling Andrew’s once employer, design legend Albert Hadley. The bedroom owes its pattern on pattern vision to Renzo Mongiardino’s work for Lee Radziwill. Most importantly, the jewel box space is the perfect venue for vernissages and entertaining in style! You’ll be inspired, informed and entertained!!
