NOTE: though more than 15% of the population has damage in their TMJ's, ~15% have issues that are maladapted and unstable and not amenable to Occlusal Adjustment treatment such as DTR. Therefore, more than 85% of "TMJ" patients have joint damage (approximately 50-60% actually), but ~15% of the 50-60% are serious enough to be considered unstable and maladapted, truly damaged joints that can or will cause painful symptomatology. Again, as stated in the documentary, damage to the medial pole of the TM cartilagenous meniscus which does not reduce back on the mandibular condylar head is the threshold where DTR therapy becomes less predictable for a patient.
