'Crushing invasion': Illegal border crossings, migrant encounters, getaways at record high

U. S. Border Patrol agents have seen record-high numbers of illegal border crossings and migrant encounters as getaways remained at an all-time high.

Mark Morgan, the former acting commissioner of Customs and Border Protection, joined The National Desk Tuesday with the latest details on the border.

According to numbers provided by Morgan, Border Patrol agents arrested more than 2,090 undocumented migrants in October alone. And then they also say they saw a record high of 86,796 known getaways.

"That number is very distinct and precise. Can you tell me how those numbers were calculated?" The National Desk's Jan Jeffcoat asked Morgan.

"Look, the majority of the got-aways that you just rattled off, and they are historic high for the month and for the past couple of years, is they're detected through surveillance," Morgan explained. "You literally have individuals through surveillance cameras and other techniques that are seeing them. But the issue is they don't have the resources to go and actually encounter them, actually apprehend them."

"Morgan said the reason for this is "because 80% to 90% of our frontline resources are pulled off the front line, pulled away from their national security mission, because they're relegated to administrative duties to process the crushing invasion" of undocumented immigrants who have entered the U.S. in the last two years."
