Came across this “endangered” alligator snapping turtle baby down in Golconda on the ohio river 4-23-25 during our morning hike. They are literally endangered as we type this! There has been serious flooding down here in Pope Co. Il. These past several weeks and before. Amazing that these turtles can live from 50 to 100 years old. Females can get up to 22 inches long as an average and weigh 62 pounds. The males can get up to 230 pounds plus, and get 29 inches long! We “shooed” it off the road! It was heading to the water.
