Dangerous Railroad Crossing, Steep, Poor Visibility & Smoky Heritage Unit Goes Over Bridge Over CSX

Check out this railroad crossing near Crittenden, Kentucky. It is so steep that you can't see the road on the other side and if a car was coming in the other direction you wouldn't see it until it was right there. There used to be a marker that you would aim your vehicle towards when crossing the tracks to make sure you stay on the road. This road goes to a few homes and farms in a rural area. The train with a DPU on the rear was a northbound manifest heading towards Gest Street Yard in Cincinnati, Ohio.
After that we check out a bridge that is almost 100 years old. I got a few different angles of CSX trains going under it and Norfolk Southern trains going over it. Check out the Norfolk Southern Heritage Unit. It was working hard on an intermodal train and putting out some smoke to prove it. That was a long train too.
Listen to the CSX southbound train going under the bridge. Those locomotives sounded awesome going up the grade and the first unit was pretty cool looking. The first CSX train had a "DO NOT HUMP" boxcar on the front. It’s one of 2 CSX Autonomous Track Assessment Cars (ATAC).
These cars travel in revenue service, measuring track geometry conditions while transiting from origin to destination. It measures gage, profile, crosslevel, warp, and alinement. The ATACs are essentially converted boxcars, with concrete added to increase the weight of the car and the testing quality (110 tons total weight).
The data collected by the cars is sent in near real‐time to a vendor who reviews the data collection. The cars can not be pushed over humps in hump yards. That is so the expensive equipment inside doesn't get damaged due to cars slamming together.
We also see a close up of the rail and we see my radio and hear some radio audio from the trackside defect detectors. All kinds of stuff going on from a bunch of different locations near Crittenden and Walton, Kentucky. I used 2 cameras.
