Hurricane Season Starts June 1 – Are You Ready? 🌪️

Hurricane season is here, and MODS is teaming up with the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) and FIU’s International Hurricane Research Center to help you prepare!

On May 31, 2025, the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS) hosted Eye of the Storm, a powerful public preparedness event sponsored by the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) and FIU’s International Hurricane Research Center. Executive Director Kevin Guthrie of FDEM and Major General John D. Haas, Adjutant General of Florida, led the call to action, urging all Floridians to complete their preparations ahead of the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season, which officially begins June 1.

This family-friendly event featured live weather science demonstrations, hurricane preparedness presentations from leading experts, and interactive stations designed to help residents better understand storm risks and how to stay safe.

🗓️ While peak hurricane activity is expected in September, the season runs June 1 through November 30. Storms can form at any time — so preparation, early planning, and ongoing awareness are critical.
